Phnom Penh Capital Administration threatens non-tolerant administrative and legal measures against NagaWorld protestors

As protestors continue to demonstrate against NagaWorld, Phnom Penh authorities warned that non-tolerant legal measures will be taken against those who refuse to cease protesting.

The Capital Administration released the notice warning of legal measures on February 15.

The Phnom Penh Capital Administration stated that “In order to prevent the spread of Covid-19, especially the Omicron variant, from further transmission in the community, as well as to ensure public security and order, the Phnom Penh Capital Administration does not permit illegal demonstrations by former employees of NagaWorld in Tonle Bassac, Chamkarmon District. In the case of continued noncompliance, the Phnom Penh Administration will take administrative and legal measures without exception.”

The demonstration, which began on November of last year, has seen many of its participants contract Covid-19. The authorities have called for the protestors to cease the protest and not use public space as a venue for their protest.

The Phnom Penh Capital Administration has taken measures to inform the protesters not to continue their illegal activities and to implement the labour dispute resolution mechanism in accordance with the law.

The Phnom Penh Capital Administration further stated that during the period of illegal demonstrations, this activity caused serious damage to public order, traffic congestion and disrupted the daily business activities of the people.
